SDAH 526: Because He Lives

Chief

Chief of Sinners.
Video: Kaleb Brasee

Composer: Gloria Gaither; Bill Gaither

1. God sent His Son, they called Him Jesus,
He came to love, heal, and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Refrain
Because He lives I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future.
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

2. How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride, and joy He gives;
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.

Story behind the song

The popular Christian song 'Because He Lives' was inspired in the eve of 1970 and written by Gloria and Bill Gaither. The song was composed during a time of social unrest and uncertainty, much like the present world. Despite their own doubts and insecurities, the Gaithers found solace in their faith in Christ, and this inspired the lyrics of the song. 'Because He Lives' remains the most requested song written by the Gaithers, even though they have written over 800 songs since then. The lyrics express hope and confidence in Christ's resurrection, offering comfort in the midst of difficulties. Gloria Gaither evaluates things from the perspective of eternity and recognizes that Christians provide a stable foundation amidst chaos. There is certainty of victory and acknowledgment of the reign of Christ.
