Does anyone really keep the Sabbath day as it says in Exodus 16:29 on the Sabbath day stay in your place don't leave your place so no one can go to church on the Sabbath day as you have to stay in your place of course people will say Jesus healed the blind man on the Sabbath so you can do good on the Sabbath day going to church is good Jesus with his disciples walking through a field picked the crop that was growing in the field so Jesus was harvesting working on the Sabbath day so we must be able to work also on the Sabbath church will have to be held on another day as no one can travel on the Sabbath day it doesn't say in the bible what day to attend the synagogue or church but it can't be on the Sabbath day if you want to live by the law you have to keep all the laws God writes how it is be done not a watered down version of the Law as people are keeping then you are just messing around with God's laws but if the church did keep the Sabbath day law as it says in the Exodus 16 29 many and many people will leave the church people won't give two days to God one the Sabbath and the other day for church

Hello Evakool,

First, I must admit that it was not easy to read your question due to no punctuation. However, from what I gather in the context of the question, Exodus 16:29 was a warning to the children of Israel who would be hard-headed and try to go to collect manna. Indeed, some of them went to collect manna on the Sabbath and found none.

A few things I would like to point out:

  1. It was the custom of Jesus to go to the synagogue every Sabbath - Luke 4:16
  2. Paul "reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks" - Acts 18:4. Indeed, Paul and Barnabas kept the Sabbath in Antioch, teaching the gentiles who besought them to continue teaching them the truth next Sabbath. It is recorded that the synagogue was full the following Sabbath with people who came to seek the truth - Acts 13:42-44.
  3. In Jeremiah 17:21, the children of Israel are warned against entering the gates of Jerusalem while bearing burdens on the Sabbath day. The scripture warns them against coming while bearing a burden, it does not say they should not come to worship on the Sabbath day. It is the act of bearing a burden which is discouraged, not the act of coming to worship.
  4. Hebrews 10:25 exhorts us to not neglect gathering together as others are in the habit of doing so, even as we see the day approaching.
  5. You have mentioned that Jesus and his disciples walked in the fields and picked some grains to eat. They were not harvesting. Read testimonies for the Church 7, 106 - "The needs of suffering humanity are never to be neglected. The Saviour, by His example, has shown us that it is right to relieve suffering on the Sabbath". Also, in the Desire of Ages 207, 1 - "In such a case, men would miss the fruits of the earth, and the blessings that make life desirable. Nature must continue her unvarying course. God could not for a moment stay His hand, or man would faint and die. And man also has a work to perform on this day. The necessities of life must be attended to, the sick must be cared for, the wants of the needy must be supplied. He will not be held guiltless who neglects to relieve suffering on the Sabbath. God's holy rest day was made for man, and acts of mercy are in perfect harmony with its intent. God does not desire His creatures to suffer an hour's pain that may be relieved upon the Sabbath or any other day". Physical hunger is one of the pains that should be relieved, that's why he fed thousands on multiple occasions.
  6. Also, Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, He created the Sabbath for the good of man - so that the Sabbath does not end up being a burden and people hate it. The Sabbath is meant to be a delight, a time to cast aside every want and care. Mathew 11:28 is an assurance that Jesus will lift all burdens we carry when we come to him. Why would he load us with a burdensome Sabbath if he's the one who promises to lift our burdens away?
I hope this sheds some light to your question. You can reply to this comment if you need more clarification.

Good to hear from you.So on the Sabbath day if you have no food it is possible to go and buy some what if you where driving the car is out of fuel can you buy some. Of course Jesus had to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath day as he wanted to talk to the Jewish people no use going when there not there but it says Jesus went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day as it was their custom not as it it written or as commanded a custom is made by man but as it written is from God and command is from God. What is the the desire of age's that you mentioned. rega

Sorry I forgot to say Paul and the other decipiles went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day as the Jews would be there to tell them about Jesus as first the Jews had to be told about Jesus then the gentiles no use going any other day they won't be there they didn't go to synagogue to learn but to teach the Jewish person there

When a donkey enters into a hole on the Sabbath day, it is not good to leave it in the hole (Luke 14:5). However, you should not push the donkey into the hole, nor should you tie it near the hole lest it falls therein. In short, make use of the preparation day to make sure you will have everything you need for the Sabbath. Cook your food, buy your supplies, clean and press your clothes, clean and fuel your car on Friday so that you do not have "emergencies" on the Sabbath.

Yes but in today's world things never go as one intends it to. Fridge can stop working food can go bad electric problems in the fuse box car can break down on the side of the road tow truck has to be called and paid for some one in the house hold can get sick ambulance has to called. It happens to all people no matter what day it is. So a person who goes to church on Sunday never kept the Sabbath day but believes in God and that Jesus came to save people from their sins but doesn't keep the Sabbath day what happens to him at the judgement will he get to heaven or not ?

How many times did the breakdowns happen before? What did you do in that case? If you think the fuse box will only break on the Sabbath, then it is akin to pushing the donkey to the hole. Do your part according to God's word and let God do his part.

As for the Sunday worshipper, it is not my position to judge his/her fate. Except, it is written that "If we make the decision to sin after we receive the knowledge of the truth, there isn’t a sacrifice for sins left any longer. There’s only a scary expectation of judgment and of a burning fire that’s going to devour God’s opponents. (Heb 10:26-27).

So the SDA church is the only true church to get salvation or are there other Sabbath keeping church's that teach the some as yours and get people to heaven

Denominational religiosity will not take anyone to heaven. It is your personal relationship with Christ that will determine whether you go to heaven or not because Christ is the only way for anyone to obtain eternal salvation (John 14:6).

You remember the story of Mary and Martha when Jesus went to visit them (Luke 10:38-42), and Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet listening to the words of truth while Martha was minding temporal issues? Jesus advised that Mary chose the right thing. I would advise the same; choose the good thing by sitting at Jesus’ feet. The SDA Fundamental Beliefs are anchored on bible truth. You can read them and decide for yourself if you want to sit at Jesus' feet as a Seventh-day Adventist or otherwise.

Doesn't the SDA church teach that also doing works like keeping the Sabbath day to get to heaven. There were no people who kept the Sabbath day on earth only the Jewish people Romans Egyptians Greek's as they are Gentiles didn't keep Sabbath day only Jews kept it Jesus came first for the jews but they didn't want him then he reached out to the Gentiles two separate people so now the beleveing gentiles are called Christian's after Christ not jews. As Jesus is the new covenant the old covenant was with the Jewish people the new covenant is for the Christians Jesus says old things are passed away all things are new once you accept Jesus as Lord and saviour the law is in your heart not in your mind you won't want to do anything bad as you upset Jesus your best friend who died for your sins. Of course if you want to live by the law you will be judged by the law. That's what religious cult's talk about Jesus but when you start with their bible study's it's about their beliefs and ways Jesus is on the side but some law is foremost only because they are ones who have it like I have been many times to SDA church as I knew people that are SDA they mainly talk about the Sabbath day keeping and finish the service with something written by a Mrs white from her book you think because Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings name above all names that they will finish the service with something Jesus said out of the Gods word the Bible. A human comes along with their ideas as and thoughts and people follow them but Jesus came down from heaven to save the world and they make up some type of religion instead of following Jesus Christ as Jesus said beware many will come in my name but are fulse prophet's and wolf's in sheep's clothing. You probably know the chapters and verses I am talking about you can look them up your self I did look into your prophet Mrs white she said if people don't accept her writings they rejecte the bible as well there's much more she wrote that is opposite to what the bible teaches she was also had had a sickness called epilepsy episodes when you fall on the ground and have a fit if you read in the bible a woman came to Jesus because daughter had a unclean spirit and was having episodes fits on the ground and wanted Jesus to heal her. So what ever visions Mrs white had was not from God all religious cult's have a prophet that had visions like Mormons Jehovah witness but from who can't be from God as he wrote everything you need to know it's called the bible

I do not speak for the SDA church. I am a Seventh-day Adventist because I believe the teachings of the church resonate with the faith I profess in Christ. I do not believe the church teaches salvation by works. It teaches that salvation is by grace (Titus 2:11-14), "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." Titus 3:3-7, "For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

We do not do good so that we can be saved. We do good because we have been saved (Mathew 7:20; Ephesians 2:8-10).

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus and God are one (John 10:30). He says that "Before Abraham was, I AM (John 8:58). He also says that he did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfil it (Mathew 5:17). Since he does not change, and he is the one who set the Sabbath law, I choose to obey the fourth commandment. The Sabbath was never done away with, and it remains eternally (Mathew 5:18). Even after the second coming of Jesus, we will still observe the Sabbath in the new Jerusalem (Isaiah 66:23).

If you have a problem with Ellen White's writings, I may not be in a position to help you with that. However, if you find any of her works that is contrary to the biblical teachings, I advise you to uphold the bible as the supreme source of truth.

Are you not just like the Catholic church as they have the Pope as there head of church and you have Mrs white as she is a founder of SDA church Protest churchs have Jesus as the founder and prophet and only teach about Jesus we are saved not by work's least any man shall bost. SDA church says now for about 60 years that Jesus is the saviour but before they didn't say that as Mrs white said Jesus is the Michael the archangel in her writings most younger SDA members won't know because of the SDA church Changes though the years now I see they have put a cross in their symbol of the book and what looks like fire coming up never had a cross before on their church buildings or even in their church. Bus still finish a service with something Mrs white said and they have the clear view bible that she wrote that has many changes from the the original bible I went many times to SDA church with people I knew at that time hardly any thing said about Jesus but Sabbath keeping lots and lots it's like SDA has made the Sabbath day as their God they seem to worship Sabbath day not Jesus of course they throw a bit of Jesus in to keep people there the same as Jehovah witness Mormons Catholics do the same a little bit of Jesus but mainly what they want to teach there are other churches that keep the Sabbath day like the wide world church of God and others whose names I would have to look up but the SDA church doesn't even accept them and they don't accept the SDA you understand a religious cult will always say they are the only way to God of course put a bit of Jesus in to make it seem Christian.

I am sorry, I think you have lost me here. I thought this thread was about Sabbath keeping. I do not think discussing personalities has any salvation value, therefore, I will desist.

God is going to send everyone who didn't keep the Sabbath day to hell how can anyone have a Bible and not understand it what about all the other laws sealing lying adultery even calling someone a fool not giving to the poor did you read the laws Jesus said love your enemies do good to those who hate you if love those who love you what good is that even the pagens do that if you lend something to a person and they don't give it back don't ask for it back even money don't ask for it back if you look at a woman in lust that is adultery. What about all these laws it's not just the Sabbath day keeping law. If you break one law you have broken all the laws your church is just focusing on one law so they keep the people there under their thumb you think you your self haven't broken any law's you break one law you have broken all the law's

You make very bold claims but unfortunately fail to supply scriptural texts to support your arguments. I would love to engage from an evidence standpoint. Please provide the scriptural texts to support your claims.

From where I sit, the law is wholesome and whoever offends in one is guilty of breaking all, for whoever said do not kill also said do not covet (James 2:10). As an Adventist, I believe in obeying the whole of God's commandments, including the fourth.

Also, the thread topic clearly states, "Keeping the Sabbath day." You are free to open another thread topic to discuss these issues you are raising. It helps to keep the forum organized and easy to reference topics.

Sorry you are right supposed to be talking about keeping the Sabbath day I live next door to Jewish people so I asked them if you can travel they said that Exodus 16 29 means to stay in your place not to Pick or harvest any food food has to be all ready before the Sabbath starts I asked about travelling stay in your place means no travel they said the Jewish people made that you can travel 2000 cubics about 11/2 miles and only on foot no donkey no cart just walking I asked about the mana you said about they said it is food and Sabbath law says no collecting food so I was right you can't go to church on Sabbath day has to be another day they said it was after Sabbath is finished Saturday night they go to the synagogue they are Jewish people they know about the old testament. They say even the Jewish people don't keep the Sabbath day as is meant to be kept no one does it is only kept as symbolic to show it was once done also you can't turn a light on or Cook on a stove or oven I was walking past a Jewish centre that is close to where I live and a Rabbi was waiting outside and asked me to turn the lights on in their building as the automatic timers didn't turn the lights on and they can't turn any lights on

That is an interesting perspective you highlight. Unfortunately, I have not had contact with Jews to learn firsthand about their culture. Whatever the case, I prefer to take the Lord at his word.

It is written “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy (Exodus 20:8–11).

I have not seen the details of how far I should walk or drive. According to me, everything that counts work with secular benefits/rewards ceases on the Sabbath. I qualify this statement because evangelism is work, and I have no problem evangelizing on the Sabbath.

After more investigation there are two types of Jews Othordx and symbolic. Othordx jews say Exodus 16 29 means stay at your place don't go and pick or Collett food mana is food don't go out and get it get food ready before the Sabbath day starts and when Sabbath day has finished they go to the synagogue Saturday night that's what I said in Matthew 12-12 Jesus and decipiles went through a field and picking the crop eating you made a big deal about being hungry but the disciples were Jewish and Jesus knows the law get food ready before the Sabbath so they broke the law no matter if they were hungry they put the donkey near the hole as you put it. Non Othordx Jews drive around on the Sabbath day to the synagogue walk the dog in the streets and Cook food on the stove turn lights on they keep the Sabbath day as symbolic not as it is written in the law other wise how can you drive to the church in traffic with other drivers who don't know how to drive and not have a bad thought that's not being holy if you go out and start talking to someone and its gossip about another person that's not holy if you hear when you're outside other people yelling and calling swearing that's not holy that's why it says in Exodus 16 29 stay in your place to keep the Sabbath day holy as the othordx Jews stay at home and go to church on Saturday night after Sabbath that's keeping the Sabbath holy Deuteronomy 5:15 seems to say remember the Sabbath day as God took you out of slavery in Egypt. Then Jesus didn't have to come and die for our sins as if people just kept the Sabbath day holy that should get them salvation from their sins Jesus should of just stayed in heaven and got more prophet's on earth to tell about the Sabbath day rest and who ever kept it would of been saved

For me, the Sabbath is the day of the week when I recharge after I have been drained all week with work and cares. My approach to life is to live everyday as if Jesus was watching me (because He is watching me). Before I do something I stop and ask, what would Jesus do if He were in this situation? What any other person thinks or does in that situation is immaterial.

Does that mean I am sinless? Absolutely not! I fall into sin quite frequently, and that is why I repent daily (1 Corinthians 15:31).

In the end, I am certain that keeping the Sabbath perfectly is not my ticket to heaven. It is the grace of God that allows me to obtain favour of God - the eternal salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Does that mean I should give up on keeping the Sabbath? Certainly not! I will keep trying for as long as there is a willing spirit in me, "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).
